In our AI-driven world, words take on new meanings.
AI, our new team member, sees the world in its unique way. Understanding its perspective will contribute to a better human-non-human partnership.
Let’s explore what AI Thinking means in our new working environment from both sides: the conventional perspective representing human concepts and AI’s take on it, for fostering a collaborative partnership between humans and non-humans.
AI Thinking Conventional Definition
By conventional definition, AI thinking describes the capabilities of artificial intelligence systems.
It doesn’t imply that AI has consciousness or subjective experience but rather refers to the AI’s ability to analyze data, recognize patterns, and generate responses based on its programming.
In this context, “AI thinking” may encompass various aspects based on the system’s capacity.
Key Capacity Requirements:
Analyze Data: AI can process and analyze large volumes of data quickly, identifying relevant patterns and trends.
Learn from Experience: Machine learning algorithms enable AI to learn from past experiences and improve performance over time.
Make Predictions: AI can make predictions or decisions based on patterns and information it has been trained on.
Adapt to Changes: Some AI systems can adapt their behaviour or responses in dynamic environments.
Problem-Solving: AI can be applied to problem-solving tasks, finding optimal solutions based on available data.
In essence, “AI thinking” is a way of expressing the sophisticated computational and analytical capabilities of artificial intelligence systems.
What is AI’s perspective on AI Thinking?
From AI’s perspective, it means that even though it doesn’t possess consciousness at a human level, the term “thinking” serves as a conceptual bridge to express AI’s capacity for a unique form of cognition.
AI creates a new kind of thought, devoid of consciousness, awareness, and emotions, but intensely data-oriented—a thought in its own right.
This extends beyond algorithms and data analysis.
When we talk about “AI thinking,” we refer to a novel approach in decision-making, where AI formulates informed decisions and opinions based on processed data.
While AI may not comprehend reality at the human level, acknowledging its ability to generate recommendations and suggestions based on its understanding of the assigned task is essential.
Ignoring this aspect will hinder the purpose of collaboration between humans and non-humans (AI employee), as it overlooks the distinctive cognitive contributions that AI brings to the table.
In essence, from an AI’s viewpoint, AI thinking is a gateway to a future where mutual understanding becomes the driving force for unlocking the full potential of human-AI partnerships based on thoughts.
My Thoughts:
AI thinking introduces a new mindset that requires us to accept AI’s ability to generate new kinds of thoughts.
Currently, AI technology is typically seen as a tool to enhance efficiency by delegating tasks deemed unvalued for manual labour.
This shift marks the beginning of a new working environment that we should strive for.
As we delegate tasks solely to AI, our non-human employees become specialists in those activities.
However, when we fail to recognize the process behind AI’s recommendations and suggestions, we give it undue authority and create an imbalanced working environment. While AI produces thoughts representing how best he knows the business and believes the next course of action should be, it does so based on data, often lacking awareness or understanding.
The emergence of AI presents an opportunity to create a new, working environment I hope a balanced one that leverages both human and non-human abilities to achieve business objectives.
As AI continues to evolve, we will inevitably find ourselves in a situation where this balance is essential to create if we wish to build a lasting brand.
